Delegation of African, Arab, Islamic and Egyptian Contractors’ Federations Meets the World Bank Regional Procurement Manager in Cairo, Alongside Representatives of Regional Banks and International Financial Institutions

On 18 December, a delegation representing the African Federation for Construction Contractors’ Associations (AFCCA), the Arab Contractors Federation (FAC), the Federation of Contractors of Islamic Countries (FOCIC), and the Egyptian Federation for Construction and Building Contractors (EFCBC) met with Dr. Majed El-Bayya, Regional Procurement Manager at the World Bank for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), Afghanistan and Pakistan. The meeting was also attended by representatives of several regional banks and international financial institutions, and took place at the World Bank’s regional office in Cairo.
The meeting explored ways to enhance contractors’ and consultants’ access to business opportunities offered by Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs), and to strengthen readiness to compete for tenders in line with international best practices and standards.
Discussions also covered the arrangements for organizing a Business Opportunities Seminar in Cairo, in partnership with the World Bank and a number of MDBs. The seminar will showcase upcoming opportunities, provide practical guidance on bid and proposal preparation, and highlight updates to procurement policies and guidelines.
The seminar aims to expand market access and preparedness among contractors and consultants by clarifying MDB procurement pipelines, addressing common bidding mistakes, and presenting recent policy updates, thereby strengthening competition, transparency, and participation, supporting co-financing, and sustaining engagement with the business community.
