AFCCA and CoST Explore Prospects for a Strategic Partnership to Enhance Transparency and Capacity Building in Africa
As part of the ongoing efforts of the African Federation for Construction Contractors’ Associations (AFCCA) to strengthen cooperation with specialized international organizations, the Federation held a meeting with CoST – the Infrastructure Transparency Initiative to explore prospects for joint cooperation in the fields of transparency, integrity, and capacity building within the construction and infrastructure sector across the African continent.
The meeting was attended by Ambassador Hatem Tageldin, Secretary-General of the Federation, together with the Secretariat’s team, while CoST was represented by Ms. Olive Kabatwairwe, Regional Director for Africa and Head of Learning at the organization’s International Secretariat, and Mr. Nicolas Ronderos, Senior Private Sector Programmes Manager.
The meeting witnessed a productive discussion on ways to develop an institutional partnership between the two sides, in a manner that would support national federations and member contracting companies, and strengthen the principles of transparency, accountability, and integrity in the implementation of infrastructure projects.
The meeting also addressed opportunities for cooperation in organizing joint webinars, implementing specialized training programmes and workshops, and enhancing collaboration in the fields of communication and knowledge exchange, in a manner that supports capacity building and keeps pace with international best practices in the construction sector.
Both sides affirmed their keenness to continue coordination and develop a strategic partnership serving the objectives of both parties, one that contributes to supporting sustainable development and enhancing the efficiency of the construction and infrastructure sector on the African continent.
