Coordination Meeting between the African Federation for Construction Contractors’ Associations (AFCCA) and the Confederation of International Contractors’ Associations (CICA)

A coordination meeting was held via videoconference between the African Federation for Construction Contractors’ Associations (AFCCA) and the Confederation of International Contractors’ Associations (CICA) in Paris. The meeting brought together Eng. Hassan Abdelaziz, President of AFCCA, and Mr. Juan Armando Vicuña, President of CICA, alongside Ambassador Hatem Tageldin, Secretary General of AFCCA, and Ms. Fanny Dastugue, Director General of CICA, in addition to members of the respective teams from both organizations.

The meeting addressed avenues for strengthening institutional cooperation between the two federations, particularly in the areas of professional capacity building, exchange of expertise, and enhancing the participation of African contractors in projects financed by international financial institutions.

During the discussions, the African side highlighted several initiatives recently undertaken by AFCCA, including the organization of a workshop in cooperation with the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), as well as a high-level seminar held in Cairo under the leadership of the World Bank Group, with the participation of several multilateral development banks. These initiatives aim to enhance the readiness of African construction companies to participate in international projects.

Within the framework of advancing training and capacity-building programs, AFCCA also referred to the signing of cooperation protocols with a number of research and training institutions in Egypt, including EMEND – Executive Management and Engineering Development Center and the Housing and Building National Research Center (HBRC).

The meeting further explored potential areas of cooperation between AFCCA, CICA, and FIDIC, with a view to promoting the dissemination of international professional standards and expanding opportunities for African construction companies to participate in global markets.

Both sides agreed to continue coordination and the exchange of information through the digital platforms of the two federations, in addition to exploring the organization of a joint webinar aimed at introducing national federations and African companies to the role and activities of CICA, thereby strengthening institutional engagement and integration within the global contracting network.

The discussion also touched upon upcoming events bringing the two organizations together. In this regard, CICA extended an invitation to AFCCA to attend its Spring Meeting in Cairo on 28–29 April 2026, while AFCCA renewed its invitation to the leadership of CICA to participate in the General Assembly of the African Federation for Construction Contractors’ Associations, scheduled to take place in Cairo from 11 to 14 June 2026.

This meeting comes within the framework of the joint efforts aimed at strengthening international cooperation in the construction sector and supporting the greater integration and visibility of African contractors within the global project ecosystem.
