AFCCA and HBRC Sign Cooperation Protocol to Enhance Training and Capacity Building in Africa’s Construction Sector
Cairo
The headquarters of the Housing and Building National Research Center (HBRC) in Cairo witnessed the signing of a cooperation protocol between the Center and the African Federation for Construction Contractors’ Associations (AFCCA), with the aim of strengthening training programs and capacity-building initiatives in the fields of construction and building across the African continent.
The protocol was signed in the presence of Dr. Mohamed Masoud El-Saadawy, Chairman of the Housing and Building National Research Center, and Eng. Hassan Abdelaziz, President of the African Federation for Construction Contractors’ Associations (AFCCA), within the framework of joint efforts to support the development of technical and engineering competencies in the construction sector across African countries.
The cooperation protocol provides for the implementation of specialized training and qualification programs aimed at developing the capacities of professionals working in construction companies and institutions within AFCCA member states. These programs will cover a number of priority technical and professional fields, including green building and sustainable architecture, civil engineering in its various disciplines related to building, construction, and utilities works, as well as architectural engineering and urban planning. The cooperation will also include introducing the Egyptian building codes, standards, and technical specifications for construction and building works. In addition, the protocol encompasses areas such as fire protection engineering for buildings and facilities, management of testing and compliance laboratories, and the conduct of practical tests in accordance with national and international standards.
This cooperation reflects the commitment of both parties to providing an integrated training framework that combines theoretical knowledge with practical application, thereby contributing to enhancing institutional performance and strengthening the competitiveness of the construction sector across the African continent in line with the latest international standards and best practices. This will be achieved by leveraging the extensive scientific and research expertise of the Housing and Building National Research Center, which spans more than seventy years in this field.
During the signing ceremony, Dr. Mohamed Masoud El-Saadawy emphasized that this cooperation aligns with the Center’s pioneering role in disseminating engineering knowledge and scientific innovation, and aims to strengthen the technical and managerial competencies of professionals in the construction and building sector while enabling them to adopt international best practices and standards.
For his part, Eng. Hassan Abdelaziz highlighted the importance of benefiting from the Center’s advanced scientific capabilities and technical infrastructure, noting that the protocol will contribute to transferring distinguished expertise to the Federation’s partners across various African countries, thereby supporting the development of institutional and technical capacities within the construction sector throughout the continent.
This cooperation comes within the broader efforts undertaken by the African Federation for Construction Contractors’ Associations (AFCCA) to reinforce its role in supporting development across Africa through the launch of specialized training programs, the promotion of innovation in the fields of construction and building, and the strengthening of technical knowledge exchange among African professionals, in line with sustainable development objectives and regional aspirations to enhance the quality and efficiency of the construction sector across the continent.
