The Arab Fund for Technical Assistance to African Countries and the African Federation for Construction Contractors’ Associations (AFCCA) Discuss Strengthening Strategic Cooperation to Enhance the Competitiveness of African Contracting Companies
=========================
As part of efforts to advance Arab–African cooperation in the construction and infrastructure sectors, an official meeting was held between the Arab Fund for Technical Assistance to African Countries and the African Federation for Construction Contractors’ Associations (AFCCA). The meeting was attended by H.E. Ambassador Mohand Salah Ladjouzi, Assistant Secretary-General of the League of Arab States and Director-General of the Fund, and Minister Plenipotentiary Sherine Emam, Director of Operation Dept at the Fund. On the AFCCA side, Eng. Hassan Abdelalziz, President of the Federation, and Ambassador Hatem Tageldin, Secretary-General of the Federation, participated.
The meeting reflected the commitment of both parties to strengthening complementarities between the activities of the Fund and AFCCA, and to opening avenues of cooperation that enhance the ability of African contracting companies to compete with foreign firms, thereby supporting the implementation of major development projects across the continent.
The discussions addressed priority areas for collaboration, including the implementation of training programs and capacity-building initiatives—technical and managerial—for contracting companies, engineers, and technicians in AFCCA member states. These programs would encompass training in sustainable construction techniques, international contract management, modern standards of quality and occupational safety, as well as the exchange of expertise between Arab and African specialists involved in major infrastructure projects.
The meeting further explored mechanisms for enhancing Arab–African cooperation through organizing joint forums and exhibitions that bring together Arab and African contracting companies, in addition to facilitating connections between qualified African firms and Arab development finance institutions that support regional projects.
Both parties agreed to examine the possibility of launching a regional training project in Africa in the near future, as a practical first step toward establishing a long-term strategic partnership, alongside studying the signing of a memorandum of understanding to formalize their cooperation.
This meeting reflects a shared vision between the Arab Fund for Technical Assistance to African Countries and AFCCA to strengthen the capabilities of the African construction sector and to reinforce its role in driving economic growth and improving infrastructure across member states.
